Pakistani dramas should stop stereotyping women in specific characters, says Aymen Saleem
LAHORE (Web Desk) – Pakistani actor and model Aymen Saleem has shared her stance on the portrayal of Pakistani women in dramas.
Speaking in a podcast regarding her entry in the Pakistan drama industry about the content of Pakistani productions, she also highlighted how women were being portrayed in them. She said, “The modern Pakistani women are not like that at all, they’re like me or they are like I know so many others who are super driven. They are not damsels in distress and they are nowhere like conniving puppeteers.”
She further said that’s why she chose her scripts well so that she did not want to encourage this type of content or giving the youth this message and get out of this mentality. But she also thinks that the content is getting better in the dramas. “We definitely are evolving and such sort of scripts are getting better but we have a long way to go. People need to shun these stereotypical images of women in Pakistan or even India.”
The star rose to fame with Ramazan special “Chupke Chupke” in 2021 and reappeared on Pakistan television in another show “Paristan” in 2022. Aymen is also the niece of the late Pakistani singer Nazia Hassan. Her father, Saleem Yousuf, is a former Pakistani cricketer.
