LONDON (Web Desk) – UK universities have started closing their doors to students from Pakistan and Bangladesh.

According to media reports, nine British universities — including the University of Chester, University of Wolverhampton, University of East London, University of Sunderland, and Coventry University — have halted the admissions process for students from the two countries.

The move is reportedly linked to a rise in attempts by Pakistani and Bangladeshi students to seek political asylum.

Other universities are also considering changes to their admission procedures for applicants from these nations.

Britain’s Border Security Minister Angela Eagle said the visa system should not be used as a backdoor to stay in the UK.
Last month, a report revealed that Pakistan topped the list of countries whose citizens applied for asylum in the UK during the past year.
