KARACHI (Dunya News) – Police claimed to have tracked down six suspected thieves who broke into a jewellery shop and decamped with gold ornaments worth Rs310million two days ago, the biggest heist in the history of the city, Dunya News reported here on Tuesday.

According to West DIG Irfan Baloch, the thieves identified as Amir, Riaz and Farrukh, and their three other accomplices broke into the shop after smashing its rear wall and stole gold ornaments worth Rs310million in Orangi Town area.

According to police, the suspects included a security guard and workers of the shop. A welding machine, two pistols and other tools which they used for committing the theft were seized.

Police said that an investigation was launched immediately after the case was registered, and suspects were traced with the help of CCTV footage.

Within 48 hours, police arrested the main suspect along with five accomplices and recovered the stolen gold jewellery, mobile phones and other items.

Sindh Home Minister Zia-ul-Hasan Lanjar said police had recovered the stolen gold within 48 hours of the crime and praised the swift action.

He commended Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) West Tariq Mastoi and his team for what he described as a professional operation that helped restore public confidence.

Lanjar said that the Sindh government was taking all possible measures to protect the lives and property of citizens and lauded police efforts to curb crime and maintain law and order.
