KARACHI (Dunya News) – The un-deterred trend of target killing is prevalent in the city of lights and wreaking havoc on the lives of its citizens. The citizens are distressed by the unchecked violence from decades but no administration till now has been able to bring down the trend of target killing.
On Thursday night, a doctor belonging to the Hindu minority, Dr. Birbal Genani became victim of target killing near Layari while returning home from his clinic. The doctor was travelling in his car with a female nurse when he was attacked by two motorcyclists on a busy road.
SSP City Arif Aziz, while talking to media, said that police have registered a case of this incident and investigations have begun already. The SSP said, police are thoroughly investigating every aspects of this case. He added, it would be early to say anything about this case, things will become clear when the female nurse accompanying the doctor will record her statement.
On the other hand, the injured nurse named Quratulain, in her initial statement, said that she just saw flames of fire out of the blue when she was travelling with the doctor. She said that when she saw Dr. Birbal, his head was bleeding. The bullet that hit doctor’s head proved fatal for him.
The incident has drawn condemnation from eminent political leaders. Opposition leader in Sindh Assembly, Haleem Adil Sheikh said that once again criminal are roaming openly in the city and the police are busy in protocol duties for VIP’s. Moreover, PTI leader Khurram Sher Zaman said, the city is once again left on the mercy of criminals and police are nowhere to be seen.
Governor Sindh Kamran Tessori made a telephonic call to daughter of the deceased to offer his condolences. The governor assured Sapna that she will have his full support. Mr. Tessori also claimed that the culprits of this incident will be brough to justice soon.
The GS YDA announced to wear black bands, tomorrow on Friday. The young doctors association also said that IG Sindh should ensure the arrest of culprits as soon as possible. In case police don’t arrest the culprits within 48 hours, our doctors will go on strike, the GS YDA warned.
