Australia exits T20 World Cup 2026 after defeats to Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe; rain-affected Ireland-Zimbabwe match ensures Zimbabwe advances while Kangaroos fall short.
PALLEKELE (Dunya News) - Australia’s campaign in the T20 World Cup 2026 has ended as defeats against Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe have knocked the Kangaroos out of the Super Eight stage.
The 2021 champions’ chances of reaching the Super Eight stage depended on Zimbabwe losing its remaining matches. However, the scheduled match between Ireland and Zimbabwe in Pallekele was abandoned due to rain, with both teams awarded one point each. This allowed Zimbabwe to advance to the Super Eight stage with five points.
Meanwhile, both Australia and Ireland have been eliminated from the tournament. Australia has only two points with one match remaining, meaning even a win in their final match would take them to a maximum of four points—insufficient to qualify for the next stage.
