India replace Harshit Rana with Mohammed Siraj in T20 World Cup squad ahead of Saturday opener against USA.
MUMBAI (Web Desk) – India have been forced into a late change to their squad for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, just days before their opening match against the USA on Saturday.
Harshit Rana has been ruled out due to a right knee injury sustained during the warm-up game against South Africa on 4 February.
The Event Technical Committee of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup approved Mohammed Siraj as Rana’s replacement. The experienced pacer has previously represented India in 45 Tests, 50 ODIs, and 16 T20Is, bringing valuable international experience to the team. Siraj made headlines during a warm-up match against the USA in New York when he jumped backwards to take a stunning catch near the boundary ropes.
Updated India Squad
India’s revised squad for the tournament is: Suryakumar Yadav (c), Abhishek Sharma, Tilak Varma, Sanju Samson, Shivam Dube, Ishan Kishan, Hardik Pandya, Arshdeep Singh, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, Varun Chakaravarthy, Kuldeep Yadav, Axar Patel, Washington Sundar, and Rinku Singh.
Group Stage
Placed in Group A alongside Pakistan, Namibia, Netherlands, and the USA, India will begin their title defence at the Wankhede Stadium against the USA. Suryakumar Yadav’s side are aiming to become the first team to successfully defend the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup and the first to win the trophy on home soil.
