(Web Desk/AFP) – Finn Allen's blistering 41-ball 74 and a four-wicket haul from Adam Milne put New Zealand 2-0 up in the five-match series against Pakistan in Hamilton on Sunday.
Allen put on two crucial partnerships with Devon Conway and Kane Williamson as New Zealand looked set for a mammoth total once more, after registering 226 in Auckland. But Usama Mir, Abbas Afridi and Haris Rauf helped Pakistan claw back and keep the hosts to 194, despite Mitchell Santner's cameo.
After losing two early wickets, Babar Azam and Fakhar Zaman's 87-run stand seemed to put Pakistan in the driving seat. But Milne, Ben Sears and Ish Sodhi ran through Pakistan's batting to secure the win for New Zealand.
The green shirts were dismissed for 173 in the last of 20 overs.
Earlier, Palistan restricted New Zealand to 194 and captured eight wickets.
Kiwi openers started aggressively. Opener Dion Conway was the first wicket to fall for 20 runs to Aamer Jamal at total 59.
Allen's knock of 74 runs contained five sixes and seven fours. Captain Kane Williamson was retired hurt after scoring 26 runs.
Mitchell could score 17, Chapman 4, Phillips 13 and Santner 25.
For Pakistan, Haris Rauf captured three wickets, Abbas Afridi two while Aamer Jamal and Osama Mir one apiece.
Earlier, Pakistan won the toss and decided to put New Zealand in to bat.
Skipper Shaheen Afridi said after winning the toss: "Abbas debut was a positive sign, hope he continues in that manner. We have to improve more in fielding, this wicket looks fine, ground measurement is decent and this match will be good, going with unchanged team."
