ISLAMABAD (Web Desk) – The federal government has revised its policy on the import of vehicles from abroad, putting new rules in place to tighten the system.

Under the updated policy, cars can now be imported only under the Transfer of Residence and gift schemes, while imports under the personal baggage scheme have been banned.

The Ministry of Commerce has approved amendments to the Import Policy Order 2022 and issued a notification to this effect.

The government has also extended the time limit for importing vehicles from 700 days to 850 days.

In addition, imported vehicles cannot be transferred in someone else’s name for at least one year.

The policy further makes it mandatory for used vehicles to meet minimum safety and environmental standards.

Vehicles imported under the Transfer of Residence scheme must originate from the same country where the overseas Pakistani is residing.

Officials say the changes are aimed at closing loopholes and bringing more clarity to the car import process.
