KARACHI (Dunya News) – The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) on Tuesday announced that it, along with all commercial banks, will remain closed on May 1, in observance of Labour Day.

The SBP stated that the government had officially declared May 1 a public holiday.

“The State Bank of Pakistan will remain closed on May 01, 2025 (Thursday), being a public holiday on the occasion of Labour Day, as declared by the Government of Pakistan,” the notification reads.

In addition to commercial banks, finance institutions and microfinance banks will also remain closed for public dealings on that day.

Educational institutions across the country will likewise be shut in observance of the national holiday.

Labour Day, also known as May Day, is observed globally on May 1 to honour the contributions and rights of workers.

The day serves to highlight the achievements of the working class and to advocate for protection against exploitation in labour and industrial sectors.
