Trump tells Europe to 'get your own oil' as Strait of Hormuz crisis deepens amid US-Israeli war on Iran

Donald Trump criticises the UK and France over their refusal to join military action against Iran, as tensions escalate around the Strait of Hormuz and regional security risks intensify.
WASHINGTON (Dunya News) – US President Donald Trump has sharply criticised key European allies, including the United Kingdom and France, for refusing to support American and Israeli military action against Iran, warning that Washington may not come to their aid in future crises.
In a series of posts on Truth Social, the US president accused allied nations of failing to stand alongside Washington during a critical phase of the conflict, stating they would now have to “learn how to fight for themselves”.
Trump singled out Britain, suggesting it should either purchase fuel from the United States or secure supplies independently amid disruptions caused by tensions in the Strait of Hormuz, a vital maritime corridor for global energy shipments. He remarked that countries facing shortages should “go to the Strait and just take it” if necessary, adding that the US has ample oil reserves available for sale.
The president also expressed frustration with France, alleging that Paris had denied permission for aircraft carrying military supplies to Israel to pass through its airspace. He described France as “very unhelpful” and indicated that Washington would remember its stance.
Trump further claimed that Iran had been “essentially decimated”, suggesting that the most difficult phase of the conflict had already passed. His remarks come amid ongoing hostilities that have significantly disrupted shipping routes through the Strait of Hormuz, where multiple vessels have reportedly come under attack.
The escalating tensions have had immediate regional consequences. Gulf states have faced increasing security threats, with reports of missile and drone activity targeting strategic locations. A Kuwaiti oil tanker was struck and set ablaze off the coast of Dubai, though authorities later confirmed that the fire was contained without casualties or an oil spill.
Meanwhile, the Israel Defense Forces reported continued operations targeting Iranian infrastructure, alongside intensified clashes with Iran-backed groups in the region, including Hezbollah in southern Lebanon.
Despite calls from Washington, European nations have remained cautious about direct involvement in the conflict, viewing it as a high-risk military engagement. The reluctance has drawn further criticism from Trump, who also questioned the role of NATO, suggesting the alliance had failed to support the US at a critical moment.
As the situation unfolds, Washington has signalled the possibility of further escalation. Trump has warned that the US could expand its strikes to include Iran’s civilian energy infrastructure if Tehran does not reopen the Strait of Hormuz, while also indicating that diplomatic channels remain under consideration.
