Summary Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has ordered financial assistance for families of flood victims and owners of damaged homes, along with accelerated relief and infrastructure rehabilitation.
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has directed the provision of financial assistance to families affected by recent monsoon rains and floods, including families of those killed and owners of houses completely or partially damaged in the disasters.
The directives were issued during a meeting chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to review the impact of recent monsoon rains and the damage caused by them across the country.
The prime minister directed that financial assistance be provided to the families of all those who lost their lives in the floods. He also ordered financial support for owners of houses that were completely or partially destroyed due to floods and rains.
Shehbaz Sharif directed that the restoration of electricity transmission systems and roads in affected areas be completed at the earliest. He also instructed the relevant federal ministers and secretaries to visit the affected areas, personally assess the damage caused by the rains and initiate rehabilitation work.
The prime minister ordered that relief operations in affected areas be further accelerated and food and other relief supplies be delivered immediately to areas where assistance had not yet reached due to access difficulties.
He also directed the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) and provincial disaster management authorities to remain fully prepared for relief operations in view of the possibility of further rains and floods.
During the meeting, the prime minister was briefed on the impact of the 2026 monsoon and relief operations being carried out by the provinces and NDMA. The briefing stated that flood victims in all affected areas of the country had already been shifted to safe locations in a timely manner.
According to the briefing, NDMA and provincial disaster management authority teams were ready to assist people in anticipation of further rains and floods. A total of 615 tonnes of relief goods had so far been dispatched to areas affected by monsoon rains across the country, while efforts were underway to send more relief supplies.
The meeting was further informed that rehabilitation of infrastructure was progressing rapidly in rain- and flood-affected areas of Punjab, Sindh, Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir.
The briefing also stated that early warning systems were operational in northern areas, helping authorities shift several citizens to safer locations before flooding.
