ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – The administration of the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) on Friday issued a statement on the treatment of the jailed former prime minister Imran Khan who was brought to the health facility directly from Adiala Jail late Thursday night.

According to the statement, the PTI founder was brought to PIMS hospital on the intervening night of August 20 and 21, where he was examined by doctors. Two ophthalmologists from Shifa Hospital also examined him.

The statement said experts from PIMS hospital conducted a detailed examination of the PTI founder. A board consisting of PIMS doctors subsequently prepared his medical fitness report.

According to the PIMS administration, the details of the medical report cannot be disclosed in accordance with the Supreme Court’s order.

The PIMS administration said the patient’s confidentiality and the instructions of the Supreme Court would be fully respected, adding that the confidential contents of the medical report would not be disclosed.

Earlier Attaullah Tarar said on Friday that PTI founder Imran Khan was taken to hospital for a detailed medical examination under appropriate security arrangements following a Supreme Court decision.

In a statement shared on X, Tarar said Khan was taken to the hospital during the night between August 20 and 21, 2026.

He said a team of qualified doctors, including specialists in ophthalmology, cardiology and general medicine, conducted a comprehensive examination of the former prime minister and declared him medically fit.

Tarar said Khan’s sister, Uzma Khan, remained present throughout the medical examination and treatment process.

After the medical procedures were completed, Khan was transferred back to Adiala Jail at around 5:00am on August 21, the minister said.

Earlier this week, the Supreme Court of Pakistan had directed the government to move Khan to hospital from jail.

A three-judge bench ordered that Khan be taken to Shifa Hospital in the federal capital within the next 48 hours.

The government filed a review petition but the the Supreme Court Registrar’s Office raised objections to the review petition and returned it.

The Registrar's Office said the petition was submitted without complete record.

The petition was filed by the Islamabad chief commissioner through the Islamabad advocate general, seeking a review of the Supreme Court’s August 18 interim order.

The government argued that the order directing Imran Khan’s transfer to the hospital went beyond the court’s jurisdiction and therefore required reconsideration.
