RAWALPINDI (Dunya News) – Heavy rainfall in Islamabad and Rawalpindi has inundated low-lying areas, while the water level in Nullah Lai continued to rise, prompting authorities to issue warnings to residents living along its banks.
According to the district administration, the water level at Kattarian reached 20 feet, while the flow at the Gawalmandi Bridge was recorded at 17 feet.
Warning sirens were sounded in areas surrounding Nullah Lai, and residents living along the waterway were instructed to evacuate immediately. Authorities said floodwater had entered homes in Dhok Khabba and Sadiqabad.
Rainfall data showed Golra received the highest amount of rain at 144 millimetres, followed by Bokra with 132mm, Pirwadhai with 105mm and Gawalmandi with 77mm.
Heavy rain was also reported in Gujrat, Sialkot, Jhelum, Shakargarh and surrounding areas. Several electricity feeders tripped, disrupting power supplies in affected localities.
The development comes after the Pakistan Meteorological Department issued an alert for the sixth spell of monsoon rains across Punjab.
The weather department has forecast rain in different parts of the country through August 21. It also warned of possible urban flooding in low-lying areas of Mardan and Swabi.
The department further warned of a risk of landslides in mountainous areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, Murree, Galiyat and Kashmir.
