President Zardari and PM Shehbaz greeted China on Lunar New Year, reaffirming One China policy, CPEC partnership and ironclad ties ahead of 75 years of diplomatic relations
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - President Asif Ali Zardari has extended warm greetings to the people, government and leadership of China on the arrival of the Lunar New Year, describing the upcoming Year of the Horse as a symbol of energy, progress and resilience.
In his message, the President noted that 2026 will mark the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Pakistan and China, reaffirming that the friendship between the two countries is time-tested, all-weather and ironclad.
He reiterated Pakistan’s unwavering support for the One China policy and appreciated China’s principled stance on the Kashmir issue.
President Zardari also recalled the historic meeting between former Prime Minister Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and Chairman Mao Zedong, calling it a defining moment in the foundation of enduring bilateral ties.
Praising the leadership of Chinese President Xi Jinping, he said China continues to play a significant role in promoting global peace and development.
He highlighted China’s contributions within the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation and termed Pakistan-China defense and security cooperation vital for regional stability.
The President described the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor as a transformative project under the Belt and Road Initiative, expressing Pakistan’s commitment to advancing into its next phase for shared prosperity. He also conveyed his best wishes to the Chinese people in Mandarin, saying “Gong Xi Fa Cai” and “Xin Nian Kuai Le.”
Earlier, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also extended heartfelt greetings to President Xi Jinping and the people of China on the Lunar New Year.
In his congratulatory message, he expressed hope that the new year would further strengthen friendship and mutual cooperation between the two nations.
The Prime Minister wished the Chinese people health, success and prosperity, reaffirming that Pakistan-China relations have always remained strong and will continue to grow in the years ahead.
