Pakistan, Uzbekistan exchange 28 MoUs to strengthen bilateral cooperation

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - Pakistan and Uzbekistan on Thursday exchanged 28 agreements and memorandums of understanding (MoUs) across multiple sectors, reaffirming their commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev signed a joint declaration following the agreements.

The MoU exchange ceremony was held at the Prime Minister’s House in Islamabad, where documents were signed to enhance collaboration between the foreign ministries of both countries.

The two sides also agreed to establish an inter-regional forum to promote closer regional engagement.

Agreements were signed for the exchange of convicted prisoners, while separate memorandums were concluded to expand cooperation in the information technology sector.

The two countries also formalised cooperation in pharmaceutical manufacturing and signed an agreement aimed at preventing the trafficking of narcotics.

Addressing the ceremony, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said that the friendship between Pakistan and Uzbekistan is rooted in mutual respect, trust, and shared interests.

He reaffirmed Pakistan’s resolve to work closely with Uzbekistan to promote peace, stability, and prosperity in the region.

The prime minister also thanked Uzbekistan for its support on the issues of Kashmir and Palestine, noting that Pakistan believes in joint efforts to achieve lasting peace and sustainable development in the region.

He concluded by reiterating Pakistan’s commitment to further strengthening its longstanding friendship with Uzbekistan.
