Punjab’s district courts disposed of over 3.88 million cases in 2025, reducing the backlog by 56,000 under Chief Justice Alia Neelam’s leadership and judicial reforms.
LAHORE (Muhammad Ashfaq) - In a major milestone for Punjab’s judicial history, the province’s district judiciary disposed of over 3.88 million cases in 2025, significantly reducing the backlog by more than 56,000 pending cases.
The remarkable performance is being attributed to the leadership of Lahore High Court Chief Justice Justice Alia Neelam, whose policies, effective case management, and modern judicial reforms have transformed the efficiency of subordinate courts.
According to official data, civil courts across Punjab decided more than 2.91 million cases during the year, while 2.85 million new cases were filed. Similarly, sessions courts disposed of over 969,000 cases, with 938,854 new cases registered during the same period.
As a result, the total number of pending cases in civil and sessions courts dropped to 1.44 million, marking a reduction of 56,058 old cases.
Justice Alia Neelam praised the judiciary’s performance, emphasizing that transparency and timely justice remain top priorities. She said the introduction of automation, information technology, and digital reforms had accelerated the pace of case disposal.
Lawyers and litigants have welcomed the record performance, calling it a historic achievement and saying the reforms have boosted public trust in the judicial system.
