The Sindh Building Control Authority has given building owners in Karachi three days to install fire safety systems, following city audits and concerns over widespread safety gaps.
KARACHI (Dunya News) – The Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA) has issued a three-day ultimatum to building owners across Karachi to install proper fire safety systems, following recent fire safety audits conducted in the city.
According to SBCA officials, a formal letter has been sent to the chairman of the Association of Builders and Developers (ABAD), directing builders to comply with the findings of the fire safety audit carried out by the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC).
The letter stated that builders who have failed to implement safety measures have been given three days to ensure compliance in the interest of public safety. On Monday, fire safety audits were conducted in six different buildings located in the South and East districts of the city.
Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab urged all building owners to take fire safety seriously, warning that many industrial units, commercial buildings, development projects and shopping centers lack proper fire safety arrangements.
He added that in the past, traders and industrialists did not respond seriously when approached by relevant authorities regarding the implementation of fire safety measures.
