Sindh govt spokesperson Samita Afzaal terms JI Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman’s statement irresponsible
KARACHI (Dunya News) – The Sindh government has taken a strong exception to what it said a point scoring and irresponsible statements from some political parties in the wake of Gul Plaza fire tragedy.
In a statement issued here on Sunday, Sindh government spokesperson Samita Afzaal Syed termed JI Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman’s statement irresponsible, saying no one will be allowed to use human tragedy for a political agenda.
She said that Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah was personally monitoring the situation.
The allegations of delay are baseless, and the government is taking serious steps for the protection and improvement of the city, she said.
She said that calling elected representatives a mafia is political point scoring, and Jamaat-e-Islami should answer for its performance in the local government period.
It should be remembered that Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman had said during his visit to Gul Plaza that the occupying mayor reached Gul Plaza after 23 hours, adding the Sindh government cannot deceive the people by giving a presentation.
Earlier, Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Memon has rejected allegations that people have not been rescued deliberately in Gul Plaza fire.
The minister added that he did not believe that people were deliberately not rescued, and that the allegations of the traders were not true.
Appearing on Dunya News programme ‘Tonight with Samar Abbas’, Sharjeel Memon said Gul Plaza was an old building, but it was not dilapidated.
‘Karachi has 80 to 90 percent old buildings, and 95 percent of old buildings do not have a fire exit system. We have no shortage of resources,’ the minister said.
