LAHORE (Duna News) - The Punjab Police have formally initiated an investigation into the disruption that occurred during Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi’s visit to the Punjab Assembly.
According to assembly sources, the Inspector General (IG) of Punjab has submitted a copy of the incident report to the Punjab Home Department for further action. Additional evidence will also be collected from other relevant institutions based on the report. The Punjab Assembly Secretariat has been informed about the proceedings.
Earlier, the report prepared by a committee formed by Punjab Assembly Speaker Malik Muhammad Ahmad Khan was sent to the IG Punjab. The report included video evidence and recommended legal action, suggesting the involvement of law enforcement agencies for a thorough investigation.
The report stated that the opposition provided an incomplete list of guests accompanying the KP CM, causing identification issues. An individual named Matiullah Barqi allegedly attempted to enter the assembly by providing false information, claiming to be MPA Ashfaq from PK-89, which was later denied by KP Minister for Local Government, Meena Khan. Barqi reportedly resisted security instructions, resulting in scuffles and verbal abuse.
The investigation also highlighted lapses in the verification process. Opposition members had promised that two PTI representatives would remain at the main gate for identification, but this did not happen. Key identification details such as CNIC numbers, photographs, and vehicle numbers were missing from the list, further complicating the security process.
The report also mentioned that the name of a convicted individual, Haider Majeed, was included in the list provided by the opposition. Statements from assembly security personnel present at the time have been recorded by the Assembly Secretariat for further review.
