Punjab government intensifies anti-smog measures amid rising pollution in Lahore, with real-time data sharing, drone surveillance, and public awareness efforts to combat the worsening air quality.
LAHORE (Dunya News) – The Punjab government has decided to intensify anti-smog measures and provide timely awareness to citizens amid increasing pollution levels in Lahore due to north-western winds bringing in imported pollutants.
Following directives from Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, all relevant departments are now active around the clock.
Scientific measures are being taken to address the air quality crisis, including mapping pollution sources from industrial cities, which will help create a detailed record for future reference. The government is optimistic that these efforts will lead to significant improvements in the coming days.
The environment department said, while the north-western winds have caused a rise in pollution levels, there has been no relaxation in government regulations.
Actions to prevent the burning of crop residues have been stepped up, with drone surveillance and ground teams now operating more aggressively.
Real-time data sharing, warning systems, and rapid response units have been further strengthened as part of the government's efforts. Additionally, smog control machinery, water tankers, and inspection teams have been placed on high alert across Lahore.
The provincial government has advised citizens, especially vulnerable groups, to limit outdoor activities, wear masks, stay hydrated, and seek medical help at the nearest hospital if they experience any respiratory discomfort.
Senior Provincial Minister Maryam Aurangzeb emphasized that the Punjab government is implementing the most comprehensive anti-smog plan in the region, and public cooperation will be crucial in improving the situation further.
