Talal Chaudhry’s brother’s victory notification halted as ECP reviews code-of-conduct violations case.
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – The Election Commission has stopped the notification of victory for the brother of Minister of State for Interior, Talal Chaudhry, due to violation of the election code of conduct.
A hearing was held in the Election Commission on the case of code-of-conduct violation against Minister of State Talal Chaudhry. The minister did not appear and instead sent his lawyer.
Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja said that the Commission has withheld the victory notification of Talal Chaudhry’s brother, Bilal Chaudhry. He said, “We are not disqualifying Bilal Chaudhry for now, only stopping his victory notification.”
A four-member bench headed by the Chief Election Commissioner heard the case. Commission officials said that Talal Chaudhry committed violations and strict action should be taken against him.
The Chief Election Commissioner remarked that the minister violated the rules and did not even bother to appear. Commission officials informed that the Election Commission had taken action in the past against a minister and a candidate in a similar case and had summoned the minister in person.
Talal Chaudhry’s lawyer said that Talal Chaudhry had contacted him and said he would appear before the Commission.
The Election Commission adjourned the hearing of the code-of-conduct violation case against Talal Chaudhry till Thursday.
