A video showing former minister Abid Sher Ali marking his ballot in Faisalabad went viral, raising fresh concerns about election rule violations during Punjab’s by-elections
FAISALABAD (Dunya News) - A video of former state minister Chaudhry Abid Sher Ali casting his vote went viral on Sunday, prompting fresh debate over violations of election rules amid ongoing by-elections in Punjab.
The footage, reportedly recorded by a PML-N worker in Faisalabad, shows Abid Sher Ali marking his ballot paper.
The video was circulated widely across social media platforms, drawing public attention to breaches of the Election Commission’s prohibition on filming inside polling stations.
Earlier, in PP-98, a voter had already been arrested for making and sharing a similar video from inside a polling booth.
Vote counting begins as polling ends in by-elections for 13 NA, Punjab Assembly seats
Despite the latest incident, no action has yet been taken against Abid Sher Ali or the PML-N worker who filmed the video.
Meanwhile, the counting of votes began as polling came to a close for 13 constituencies of the National Assembly and Punjab Assembly seats on Sunday.
According to the Election Commission (ECP), the polling for by-elections started at 8am and concluded without any break until 5pm.
Most seats became vacant after PTI lawmakers were disqualified for their alleged role in the violent May 9, 2023 riots following former Prime Minister Imran Khan’s arrest.
