LAHORE (Dunya News) – The All Pakistan Lawyers Action Committee has urged lawyers across the country to boycott the Federal Constitutional Court, declaring its formation unacceptable.

The Lahore High Court Bar Association has issued the declaration of the All Pakistan Lawyers Action Committee following its meeting. According to the declaration, the committee stated it rejects the Federal Constitutional Court entirely.

The committee maintained that with the Supreme Court already functioning, there is no constitutional need for another such court. Anyone becoming part of this “unconstitutional body” will be considered opposed to the Constitution, the judiciary, and the people.

The declaration further stated that the committee completely rejects the 26th and 27th constitutional amendments, calling them an unconstitutional attack on the basic structure of the Constitution.

According to the committee, the amendments were passed without legitimate public mandate or support. All bar associations have been directed to hold General House meetings and take out rallies every Thursday.

The committee also announced that it will cooperate with bar associations for the organisation of conventions.

Lahore High Court Bar announces weekly boycott

The Lahore High Court Bar Association has declared a weekly boycott every Thursday. Addressing the Lawyers Action Committee meeting, President Asif Naswana said that after urgent matters, courts will be completely boycotted each Thursday.

He added that after the General House meeting every Thursday, a rally will also be taken out. Naswana expressed hope that all judges would honour their call for strike.

Asif Naswana said that the 27th Constitutional Amendment has hit judges the hardest, claiming that the status of Supreme Court judges has been diminished and that High Court judges now face the looming threat of transfers.
