LAHORE (Dunya News) – Punjab blanketed by toxic smog as Lahore suffers hazardous air quality, retaining second spot in global pollution index, on Saturday.
Early in the morning, Lahore recorded an AQI of 439, placing it among the world’s most polluted cities, according to global monitoring platforms. The provincial capital ranked second on the global pollution index, highlighting the severity of the ongoing smog crisis.
Other major cities in Punjab also reported hazardous conditions. In Gujranwala, particulate matter levels soared to 808, far exceeding safe limits. Similarly, Faisalabad recorded an AQI of 507, indicating extremely poor air quality and prompting renewed concerns over public health.
According to the international environmental website IQAir, New Delhi topped the list of the world’s most polluted cities today, with its AQI reaching 519, followed closely by Lahore.
Environmental experts warn that prolonged exposure to such high pollution levels can lead to respiratory illnesses, eye and throat irritation, and long-term health complications. Authorities continue to urge residents to limit outdoor activities, wear masks, and take precautionary measures as smog conditions persist across the region.
