ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – As the government moves forward with the mission to pass the 27th Constitutional Amendment in Parliament, the National Assembly currently comprises 336 seats, of which 10 are vacant, bringing the effective strength to 326 members.

For the amendment to be approved, the support of at least 224 members is required. The ruling coalition, including the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), currently commands the backing of 237 members, ensuring a comfortable majority.

According to parliamentary figures, the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) is the largest party in the ruling alliance with 125 members, followed by the PPP with 74 members, Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) with 22, Pakistan Muslim League-Q (PML-Q) with 5, and Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party (IPP) with 4 members.

Additionally, one member each from the Pakistan Muslim League-Zia, Balochistan Awami Party (BAP), and National Party, as well as four independent members, have expressed support for the government.

Meanwhile, the opposition benches comprise 89 members, including 75 independents and 10 from Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F). The Sunni Ittehad Council, Majlis Wahdat-e-Muslimeen, Balochistan National Party-Mengal (BNP-M), and Pakhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party each have one member in opposition.

The PPP is expected to finalize its formal stance during a meeting of its Central Executive Committee scheduled for tomorrow, which will play a crucial role in shaping the government’s strategy ahead of the vote.
