India's release of water triggers high-level flood in River Chenab

LAHORE (Dunya News) – The Chenab River is flowing in exceptionally high-level flood after the release of more water by India, Dunya News reported on Wednesday.

According to details, water inflow at the Head Marala has been recorded at 444,000 cusecs while the water flow has surged to 558,000 cusecs at the Head Khanki. Head Trimmu is also experiencing a high-level flood, with a recorded flow of 265,000 cusecs.

The floodwaters have caused severe destruction in Ram Diyanah area of Kot Momin. Several buildings, including a Government Elementary School, have been submerged.

River Chenab is flowing in a high-level flood at Shorkot, inundating many areas near the Jhang-Multan Road. Army and rescue teams are actively engaged in relief operations.

In Multan, riverbank erosion caused by the flood has resulted in large areas of land being washed away. The floodwaters have entered multiple areas of Pindi Bhattian, submerging the Government Technical College and a Police Patrolling Checkpost near Saddar Police Station.

Floodwaters from the Chenab have wreaked havoc in many settlements of Jhok Vains, and in Chishtian, an entire village has been engulfed, forcing residents to seek refuge on rooftops.

At Head Islam, water level is once again rising, submerging more villages. In Vehari, over 15 government schools have been washed away by the floodwaters.
