LAHORE (Dunya News) – For the first time in Punjab’s history, the traditional system of auctioning forest timber has been abolished.

The provincial government has imposed an immediate ban on the cutting of forests and auctioning of timber across Punjab. A formal notification of the ban has been issued.

According to the notification, new and transparent rules and regulations will be formulated with the help of modern technology and mapping. The Director General of the Forests, Wildlife, and Fisheries Department has been directed to ensure strict implementation of the order.

As per the government’s directive, all types of timber auctions, including firewood, will remain banned until further notice.

The CM took this step to protect the province’s forests and safeguard the land from erosion.

In the future, high-quality videos and photographs will be provided before any auction. It was noted that under the old auction system, trees were ruthlessly cut in the name of auctioning, with the money going into a few pockets.
