Country also observes Defence Day on the same date
ISLAMABAD (Web Desk) – The federal government has declared Saturday, September 6, a public holiday in observance of Eid Miladun Nabi, which falls on the 12th of Rabiul Awwal in the Islamic lunar calendar.
A notification issued by the Cabinet Division confirmed that the day would be observed nationwide.
Earlier, the Central Ruet-i-Hilal Committee announced that the Rabiul Awwal moon was not sighted last week, fixing the date of Eid Miladun Nabi for September 6. Muslims across the world commemorate the birth of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) on this day, marking it with gatherings, prayers, processions and religious recitations.
This year, the occasion coincides with Defence Day, marking the 60th anniversary of the 1965 war. The day pays tribute to the sacrifices of Pakistan’s armed forces and civilians who defended the country during the conflict with India.
Public holiday in Punjab
The Punjab government has also issued its own notification declaring September 6 a public holiday. According to the order, all government and private offices, the Civil Secretariat, administrative departments and outpatient departments (OPDs) across the province will remain closed.
With Sunday, September 7, already a weekly holiday, the announcement effectively provides citizens with a two-day break.
Court closures
In line with the holiday schedule, the Lahore High Court and all subordinate courts across Punjab will suspend operations on September 6. The annual holiday calendar issued by the court includes Eid Miladun Nabi, ensuring that district and session courts, along with their offices, will remain closed. The Lahore High Court Bar Association has advised lawyers to adjust their case preparations in advance to avoid disruption.
Eid Miladun Nabi
Eid Miladun Nabi, observed on the 12th of Rabiul Awwal, is regarded as one of the most important dates in the Muslim calendar. Across Pakistan, mosques, communities and religious organisations arrange special gatherings to honour the life and teachings of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
