Over 1,000 laptops go missing from PM scheme, audit reveals

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – A shocking revelation has come to light as more than 1,000 laptops from the Prime Minister’s Laptop Scheme Phase-II have gone missing, according to the Public Accounts Committee’s (PAC) subcommittee.
During the meeting, audit officials disclosed that records showed 1,011 laptops were either stolen or had vanished into thin air. Of these, 784 have been recovered, while 227 are still unaccounted for.
The audit officials further noted that the missing laptops had caused a loss worth 12 million rupees, yet no action had been taken against those responsible.
PM laptop scheme deadline extended till June 1
Briefing the committee, Higher Education Commission (HEC) officials said that data issues originally involved 179 laptops, which have now been reduced to 143. Only Karachi and Government Sadiq College Women University Bahawalpur remain under review.
The committee directed authorities to get the laptops back within one month, warning that otherwise, the cost would be recovered from those responsible.
