Islamabad rejects Indian ‘nuclear blackmail’ claims
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Pakistan’s Foreign Office on Monday strongly criticised India’s Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) for “distorting” remarks made by Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Field Marshal Asim Munir during his recent visit to the United States.
The FO described the MEA’s comments as “immature” and “another demonstration” of a “chronic tendency to twist statements out of context”.
Field Marshal Munir concluded his second high-profile trip to the US in under two months on Sunday. During the visit, he met political and military leaders and attended the US Central Command’s change of command ceremony in Tampa, Florida. His most publicised appearance came at a black-tie dinner hosted by Pakistan’s honorary consul in Tampa, Adnan Asad, attended by around 150 guests, including Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, Ambassador Rizwan Shaikh, and members of the Pakistani diaspora.
What did India say?
The Indian MEA alleged that Field Marshal Munir had engaged in “nuclear sabre-rattling”, calling such behaviour Pakistan’s “stock-in-trade”. Its statement claimed the remarks reinforced doubts about the “integrity of nuclear command and control” in a country where the military “is hand-in-glove with terrorist groups”.

The Indian MEA also criticised that the comments were reportedly made “from the soil of a friendly third country”, and said India would not “give in to nuclear blackmail”.
How did Pakistan respond?
The FO rejected the Indian narrative as “misleading” and “self-serving”, stressing Pakistan’s opposition to the use or threat of force. It accused India of “sabre-rattling and warmongering” when confronted, and reiterated that Pakistan is a responsible nuclear-weapon state with a comprehensive command and control system under full civilian authority.

The FO highlighted that Pakistan’s counterterrorism efforts are “internationally acknowledged” and that its security forces act as a bulwark against terrorism. It dismissed the MEA’s accusations as “without a shred of evidence” and condemned the reference to third countries as an attempt to “unnecessarily involve” others to pressure Pakistan.
Field Marshal Asim Munir meets top US political, military leadership
While asserting that Pakistan would continue to act as a responsible member of the international community, the FO warned that any act of Indian aggression or violation of sovereignty would be met with an “immediate and matching response”. It placed the responsibility for any future escalation “squarely” on the Indian leadership.
