Lahore once again tops air pollution index with 1,099 AQI

LAHORE (Dunya News) - The air quality index (AQI) of the provincial capital Lahore soared on Wednesday morning to a "very" hazardous 1,099.

The Swiss IQAir chart of the most polluted cities showed Lahore at the top with Indian capital Delhi at a distant second with 372.

The American Meteorological Agency has warned that Lahore will be under the influence of strong winds for the next three days due to which the smog situation is expected to worsen.

Lahore's pollution index may be 600 to 700 on November 6, 7 and 8. According to the forecast, smog-laden winds coming from India from east to west at a speed of 4 km per hour are affecting Lahore and border areas of Pakistan.

Meanwhile, provincial education department is considering closure of all educational institutions in Lahore on Friday and Saturday. There was also deliberation on including areas like Gulberg, Liberty, M.M. Alam Road, and Main Market in a "green lockdown" to curb pollution.
