LAHORE (Dunya News) - The air in Lahore remains dangerously polluted and unhealthy, with the city once again ranked as the most polluted in the world today (Tuesday), registering an AQI (Air Quality Index) of 517. Delhi, India, follows in second place.
In Lahore, the AQI in the Johar Town area has reached 320, while the AQI on Mall Road has been recorded at 475. Similarly, the AQI in the Askari 10 area has climbed to 511.
Meanwhile, the Meteorological Department forecasted the city's minimum temperature to drop to 19°C, with a maximum of 31°C.
Humidity levels are expected to rise to 81%, but there are no signs of rainfall in the city as of now.
The Punjab government has failed to curb the rising average smog levels.
Health experts have urged citizens to wear masks and advised them to avoid unnecessary outdoor activities.
Residents were advised to use face masks while outdoors, and the situation is expected to worsen further. The Environmental Protection Department has issued a red alert in this regard.
According to the department, in the next 24 hours, winds from India are expected to shift toward Pakistan, with wind speeds ranging from 4 to 8 kilometers per hour in Lahore and its surrounding areas.
Additionally, the closure of schools, colleges, and universities in Lahore was being considered for Friday and Saturday. There was also deliberation on including areas like Gulberg, Liberty, M.M. Alam Road, and Main Market in a "green lockdown" to curb pollution.
