GILGIT (Dunya News) - The 78th Liberation Day of Gilgit Baltistan is being celebrated today.
Flag hoisting ceremonies are being held in all districts including Gilgit and Skardu.
The main ceremony will be held at Chinar Bagh Gilgit while a ceremony will also be organised by Pakistan Army to pay tribute to the martyrs and ghazis of the liberation struggle of the Gilgit Baltistan.
Gilgit Baltistan government has announced public holiday today to mark the day.
Gilgit-Baltistan got its independence from the Dogra Raj on November 1, 1947 and joined Pakistan.
After the end of the Dogra Raj, the Pakistani flag was hoisted in the skies of Gilgit for the first time.
In 1948, after a year of struggle, Baltistan was freed from the domination of India.
