Applicants requests to make the draft of amendment public
PESHAWAR (Dunya News) - Former senator Bushra Gohar has filed an application against constitutional amendment in the Peshawar High Court (PHC).
Bushra Gohar filed the petition through Advocate Ali Gohar Durrani, making the federal government and Ministry of Law respondents.
The application contended that any amendment in the constitution must be made public and public reservations to be removed through consensus.
Bushra Gohar stated in the plea that a committee was formed to pass 18th amendment as well as time was allotted for public opinion that led to 800 suggestions on the amendment.
The applicant pleaded in the application to make the draft of the proposed constitutional amendment public.
It is pertinent to note that the PML-N government with the support of PPP is all set to make an amendment in the constitution but the government needed a required number of votes or 2/3 majority in both houses of Parliament to pass the amendment.
Government is making efforts to woo Maulana Fazlur Rehman to get his party support for required votes and passing an amendment.
However, PTI has opposed the amendment and labelled it an attack on judiciary and appeased Fazl to reject the amendment.
The amendment is related to judicial reforms including the establishment of a constitutional court, increase in the retirement age of high court judges and others.
