Army called in Islamabad for upcoming SCO summit

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – The federal government has approved the deployment of army in Islamabad to ensure security during the upcoming Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Heads of States summit scheduled to be held on Oct 15-16.
The Ministry of Interior has issued a notification stating that the army troops will remain deployed in the federal capital from October 5 to 17. It said the deployment would be made under Article 245 of the Constitution.
The security of Islamabad will be the responsibility of the army, with police and other agencies providing assistance to it.
Meanwhile, Indian External Affairs Minister Jaishankar has accepted the invitation to visit Pakistan to attend the SCO meeting.
According to the spokesperson for the Indian Ministry of External Affairs, India will participate in the SCO meeting in Pakistan.
The spokesperson stated that Indian Foreign Minister Jaishankar would go to Pakistan to attend the SCO summit on Oct 15-16, marking his first visit to Pakistan.
The Indian ministry further mentioned that details regarding bilateral meetings in Pakistan would be shared in a few days.
Pakistan had sent an invitation to India to participate in the SCO Heads of State Summit. However, India decided not to send its delegation to Pakistan and said it would participate online.
In the latest development, India said Minister Jaishankar would be part of the summit.
