ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - The National Assembly will now itself decide the raise in the salaries of MNAs, Dunya News reported.

According to the sources of cabinet division, the powers of finance ministry to raise the salaries of MPs have been abolished.

Earlier, the finance ministry used to be consulted in this regard.

The sources said that the National Assembly will now itself decide to increase the allowances and salaries of MNAs.

Meanwhile, the chairman of Senate’s standing committee on finance Saleem Mandviwalla had also proposed to give powers to the Senate to raise the salaries and allowances of Senators.

“It is the prerogative of National Assembly and Senate to raise the salaries of MPs,” he had said.

Earlier, the National Assembly had passed an amendment to raise the allowances of MNAs in June this year.

The travel allowance of parliamentarians was increased from Rs10 to 25 per kilometre.

The finance committee of the house was given the powers over the salaries and allowances of MNAs. Earlier, this power was rested with the federal government.
