PAS, IHCJA had challenged PEMRA notification
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – The Islamabad High Court issued a notice to the PEMRA (Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority) on Friday, restraining it from taking disciplinary action against television channels for broadcasting court proceedings.
IHC Chief Justice Aamer Farooq presided over the hearing on the petition jointly filed by the Press Association of Supreme Court (PAS) and the Islamabad High Court Journalists Association (IHCJA) seeking the suspension of a PEMRA notification that restricted the telecast of court proceedings.
Barrister Omar Ijaz Gillani and Ali Azad, the president of the Islamabad High Court Bar Association, represented the petitioners.
The court, while serving notices to the PEMRA and information secretary, adjourned the hearing until May 28.
On Thursday, the PAS and the IHCJA filed a joint petition with the Islamabad High Court against the PEMRA notification.
