Pakistan
Lawyers filed contempt of court petition
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - The Islamabad High Court (IHC) ordered the Adiala Jail superintendent to arrange online meetings between the PTI founder, and his relatives and lawyers until the security concerns are resolved.
The court issued a written order on the request of the PTI founder to allow him to meet lawyers and kin. The IHC also asked the jail superintendent to submit an implementation report on March 22.
In the written order, it was said that due to the security reasons, lawyers' meetings in the jail were banned. Internet should be provided in the jail if there was no possibility of meetings, the court said.
It was also stated that the Advocate General Islamabad had raised an objection that online meetings were not permitted in the jail rules.
The court expressed surprise over the advocate general's statement that there would be political discussions in the online meeting. "What will be discussed other than political matters if actual meeting are held," the court asked.
The PTI lawyers had filed a contempt of court petition against the jail superintendent for violating the decision by denying the former prime minister meeting with lawyers and relatives in prison.
