DERA ISMAIL KHAN (Dunya News) – At least 10 policemen embraced martyrdom and nine others suffered injuries when terrorists attacked a police station in Dera Isamil Khan in the wee hours of Monday. 

Police said terrorists attacked a police station in Daraban tehsil of DI Khan late on Sunday night, killing 10 police personnel and injuring nine others. 

Police said the armed men attacked the police station by hurling hand grenades and resorting to intense firing. 

The security officials retaliated but the terrorists taking cover of the dark managed to escape. All the injured were shifted to the DHQ hospital for treatment. Police and security forces cordoned off the area and started a search operation. 

It may be recalled that on Dec 12, 2023, a group of terrorists had attacked the Daraban police station and three policemen embraced martyrdom. The terrorists had hit their explosive-laden vehicle with the main gate of the police station. At least 16 security personnel suffered wounds in the attack.

Hospital sources said among those police officials who embraced martyrdom during Sunday night's attack were Muhammad Aslam, Ghulam Farid, Muhammad Javed, Muhammad Idrees, Muhammad Imran, ASI Kausar, Ehteram Syed, Rafiullah and Hameedul Haq.

Meanwhile, Caretaker Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister, retired Justice Syed Arshad Hussain Shah, condemned the incident and prayed for the departed souls.

On Friday last, the ISPR said 24 terrorists were killed in an operation in the Mach and Kolpur complexes of Balochistan and four soldiers were martyred. On the night between Jan 29 and 30, terrorists attacked Mach and Kolpur complexes in Balochistan, said the public relations department of the Pakistan Army.

It said the brave soldiers repulsed the terrorist attacks, adding that during an exchange of fire, four servicemen and two citizens were martyred.

Later, the forces launched an operation to find out the terrorists and during the last three days, 24 terrorists had been killed. The dead terrorists include Shahzad Baloch, Attaullah, Abdul Wadud and Zeeshan, the ISPR reported. The process of identifying the other terrorists was going on, the ISPR concluded.
