BEIJING (Dunay News) - Caretaker Prime Minister Anwarul Haq Kakar on Tuesday emphasised the impact of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) on the Pakistani economy and the people.

In an interview with Chinese media, he said the BRI promoted sustainable development through innovation, enabling individuals to better pay taxes and governments to manage debt more effectively.

Prime Minister Kakar also lauded the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) as a vital component of the BRI, laying the foundation for a shared future between the two nations and reflecting President Xi Jinping's vision.

He rejected the notion that participating countries were falling into a debt trap, emphasising that the project was key to achieving sustainable and comprehensive development.

Kakar pointed out that CPEC had attracted $25.4 billion in investments in Pakistan, generating 236,000 job opportunities. The benefits of the project, he stressed, reached all segments of Pakistani society.

He also highlighted how Gwadar Port had created new economic prospects, functioning effectively and serving as a gateway for cargo ships to multiple countries, including Afghanistan.

The caretaker prime minister asserted the government's commitment to ensuring the safety of Chinese authorities and institutions, underlining the significance of Pakistan's strong relations with China in its foreign policy.

He also applauded China's efforts in reducing deprivation, with 800 million people lifted out of poverty during the rule of the Communist Party of China, suggesting that Pakistan could draw valuable lessons from China's experiences.
