ANP welcomes approval of SC (Practice and Procedure) Bill 2023

He further said judges should not be the focus of empowerment, but rather, the courts themselves
PESHAWAR (Dunya News) – On Wednesday the Awami National Party (ANP), a key ally of the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM), expressed its support for the approval of the Supreme Court Practice and Procedure Bill 2023 by the National Assembly.
Aimal Wali Khan, the ANP's provincial president, stated that the passage of this bill would strengthen both the parliament and the constitution.
Mr Khan emphasized that, according to the Pakistani constitution, parliament is the supreme legislative body, and its supremacy must be upheld.
He argued that the approval of this legislation would strengthen the institution of the court rather than any individual, adding that his party's focus is on strengthening constitutional institutions rather than individuals.
Mr Khan further noted that judges should not be the focus of empowerment, but rather, the courts themselves.
He stated that it is essential to allocate duties to judges within the constitutional framework to establish the supremacy of the constitution.
"Parliamentarians should not be empowered; instead, parliament must be empowered. We must establish the supremacy of the constitution," ANP leader emphasized.
Mr Khan also expressed concern that the Pakistani Supreme Court might be perceived as favoring a particular political party.
He criticized the formation of benches consisting only of certain judges and not including the most senior judge, which, in his view, raised questions about the court's impartiality.
