‘More budget and policemen required for KP elections’

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Tuesday demanded more budget and 57000 more policemen to conduct elections in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP).

Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Sikandar Sultan Raja presided over a meeting attended by the ECP Secretary, KP Chief Secretary, KP Inspector General of Police (IGP), and senior members of the ECP.

The CEC said that officers posted in the province must be transferred at the earliest so that neutral staff could be appointed for the elections. “We are in contact with the Ministry of Interior and the Ministry of Defence for the deployment of personnels of the Pakistan Army and the Frontier Corps (FC) for security purposes”, he added.

On the other hand, KP IGP said the Pakistan Army and the FC personnel would be deployed to fill the gap left by the KP police as the instances of terrorism could not be ruled out during the elections. “We are not sure whether the elections will be peaceful or not", he added.
