PM Imran welcomes scrutiny of ECP regarding PTI's funding

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan on Wednesday has said that he welcomes the scrutiny of Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) regarding Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) funding through donations from Overseas Pakistanis.

In a post on social-networking website Twitter, the premier wrote, “The more our accounts are scrutinised the more factual clarity will emerge for nation to see how PTI is the only political party with proper donor base premised on proper political fundraising.”

I look forward to seeing similar ECP scrutiny on funding of two other major political parties, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), he added.

The PM said that this will allow nation to see difference between proper political fundraising and extortion of money from crony capitalists and vested interests in exchange for favours at nation’s expense.

The reaction came after a report of scrutiny committee in PTI illegal funding case revealed that income and expenses of the party during the period of 2009 to 2013 did not match.

According to the report obtained by Dunya News, PTI did not disclose banks accounts of two banks during 2008-2009. The cash receipts provided by the audit firm also did not correspond to the bank accounts, it mentioned.

The report further stated that during a period of five years, the PTI hid funds worth 320 million rupees.
