NA passes resolution against India's discriminatory citizenship act
The resolution also demanded that India cease human rights violations in occupied Kashmir.
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - The National Assembly unanimously passed a resolution against the controversial Citizenship Amendment Bill - which excludes Muslims and targeted at curbing of minorities - in India.
Federal Minister for Special Education Shafqat Mehmood tabled the resolution condemning the discriminatory action by India against their minorities.
The bill grants nationality to persecuted Hindus, Sikhs, Buddhists, Jains, Parsis and Christians who fled Muslim-majority Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan before 2015.
The text of the resolution stated that the House condemns the Indian Citizenship Act. “The act based on religious biasness is the highlight of India’s extremist ideology,” read resolution.
The resolution also demanded that India cease human rights violations in occupied Kashmir.
Earlier, Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi expressed concern on India‘s controversial Citizenship Amendment Bill and urged the US to ban Indian officials including Indian Home Minister Amit Shah.
Addressing the National Assembly, FM Qureshi said that the controversial law gave rise to a constitutional crisis in India.
FM Qureshi showed concern over the “brutal and indiscriminate use of force” by the Indian government against the students of Jamia Milia Islamia and Aligarh Muslim University protesting against the Citizenship Amendment Bill.
He continued saying: “The Modi government continues to curb and undermine the rights of minorities in accordance with Hindutva Supremacist ideology.”
