Government initiates polio vaccination campaign, strives to minimize refusal
With a declining trend of polio cases the country seems to be closing on Polio-free Pakistan goal
ISLAMABAD (Web Desk) – The government has once again initiated polio vaccination campaign to safeguard the future generations against the chronic disease. Moreover, special instructions have been made to minimize the chronic refusal ratio for vaccine.
The five-day campaign, started on May 15th, is intended to attain the polio-free Pakistan goal. The campaign is currently underway in 71 districts all over the country.
The polio campaign is being conducted in 22 districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 12 districts of Punjab and Islamabad. 17 districts of Sindh, whereas 19 districts of Balochistan are also in the run to minimize the menace of Polio.
While taking to Dunya News, Assistant Commissioner Awaid Irshad Bhatti while supervising Anti-polio campaign, said that the government is thriving to clarify the misconception about the polio vaccine and for this purpose special instructions have been issued to the district administrations.
Moreover, it was said that anyone trying to malign the campaign by spreading rumours about the vaccination process with malafide intentions will be dealt with iron hands. During the vaccination spree, the AC’s of Islamabad were directed to accompany the vaccination teams in peripheral areas minimize the rampant refusal rate and to shun away the misconceptions.
The Health department has also been emphasizing the need of vaccination for infants. However, the polio rate in Pakistan has been observed to decline continuously and Pakistan seems to be closing on the polio-free Pakistan goal.
