(Web Desk) - Footage of a gas station explosion in Yemen in August has been falsely claimed online to show Iranian missiles hitting Israel on Oct 1.

Tehran fired ballistic missiles on Oct 1 in what it said was a retaliation against Israel killing militant leaders and its campaigns in Lebanon and Gaza.

After the attack, people on social media shared a clip of huge flames engulfing the night sky, saying it showed the result of a direct hit on Israel.

However, the video was captured in Yemen a month earlier and shows the result of a gas station explosion.

Yemeni broadcaster Aden Independent Channel published a higher quality version of the video on Aug 30, when reporting on the incident, which happened in the port city of Aden.

Reuters verified the location to be the Mansoura district of Aden by comparing key structures and lighting in the video to satellite imagery and verified photos of the area.
