Altered image does not show Paul Pelosi's mugshot after arrest on suspicion of drunk driving in May 2022

The original image shows Paul Pelosi in a suit alongside his wife Nancy.

(Reuters) - An altered image online does not show Democrat Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi’s husband Paul Pelosi’s mugshot after his arrest on suspicion of drunk driving in May 2022. Users shared a doctored image making it appear as if Pelosi was pictured dishevelled with a black eye. The original, unaltered photograph shows Paul Pelosi alongside his wife at the pre-Grammy’s Gala in 2016.

One user shared the altered image on Twitter and said: “Here it is, the real Paul Pelosi mug shot!”

The image is not authentic, however, and the claim was previously addressed by Snopes.

The original image shows Paul Pelosi in a suit alongside his wife, Nancy and was taken at the pre-Grammy s Gala in Beverly Hills, Los Angeles in February 2016.

The digitally altered version was manipulated to make it appear as if Pelosi suffered from a black eye, with his hair dishevelled. The altered version appears to show the dimensions of Pelosi’s face slightly askew, with the image stretched horizontally. All other features, including his other eye, nose, and eyebrows identically match the 2016 photograph.

The spokesperson also told Reuters that the digitally altered image was never released by Napa County.

Paul Pelosi was arrested on suspicion of drunk driving on the night of May 28, 2022, in Napa County, California. Pelosi was charged with two misdemeanours and bail was set at $5,000, according to online records.
