Karachi police have revealed 30 fake FIRs of extortion have been registered in the past five months

KARACHI (Dunya News) – Karachi police have revealed that more than 30 fake First Information Reports (FIRs) of extortion have been registered in the past five months.

Police told that in reality, incidents of extortion have decreased but people of the port city usually include this in other legal cases like personal enmity or property issues.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) in Investigation Unit (IU) Arif Aziz said that seven to eight fake FIR’s are being registered every week that only end up wasting our time.

The police official also told that the fake cases are being segregated into B-category cases, adding that in the past five months, 31 extortion cases were reported and investigation has been completed in 25 cases.

The security personnel claimed that there is no organized extortion group in the city now.

The legal expert said that FIRs of extortion should be registered only if there is solid proof.
