(Web Desk) – Papua New Guinea wicketkeeper-batter Kiplin Doriga has been sentenced to three years in prison for assaulting a woman and snatching her mobile phone.

According to details, the 30-year-old cricketer was representing his country in the ICC Cricket World Cup Challenge League being held in Jersey. He had already played matches against Denmark and Kuwait, with more fixtures scheduled.

The incident occurred on the night of 25 August at around 2:30am when Doriga was returning to his hotel. On Hilary Street in St Helier, he spotted a woman, attacked her suddenly, pushed her to the ground and stole her phone.

While police did not disclose details of the victim’s injuries, Doriga was arrested the same day. He was formally charged with robbery the following day, and on 27 August admitted guilt before the Jersey Magistrates Court.

On 28 November, the Royal Court delivered its verdict, sentencing him to three years in prison — a punishment expected to seriously impact his cricketing career.
