PSL 8: Karachi Kings dominate Multan Sultans with a spectacular 66-run victory
KARACHI (Dunya News) - In the eighth season of the Pakistan Super League (PSL), Karachi Kings on Sunday emerged victorious in the 14th match against Multan Sultans with a comfortable margin of 66 runs.
The Sultans failed to chase down the target of 168 runs set by the Kings, in the game played at Karachi's National Bank Cricket Arena.
The Kings played against the Sultans in Multan and suffered a narrow six-run defeat in a thrilling contest.
The Kings team batted first and set a challenging target of 168 runs. They then proceeded to bowl out the Sultans team for 101 runs in just 16.3 overs.This impressive performance was largely due to a half-century from Tayyab Tahir and exceptional spin bowling by Tabraiz Shamsi, Shoaib Malik, and Imad Wasim.
Despite the Sultans' attempts to chase down the target, they struggled to find their rhythm as the Kings' spin bowling proved too difficult to handle.
Opener Shan Masood was dismissed by Akif Javed after scoring 25 runs in 16 balls, with the aid of four boundaries. Left-hander Rilee Rossouw was also unable to make an impact, scoring just seven runs in six balls before being bowled out by an excellent delivery from spinner Shoaib Malik.
Earlier,, it appeared that Karachi Kings would score a significant number of runs. However, the Multan Sultans' bowlers made a strong comeback in the final overs to put up a fight.
Anwar Ali dismissed opener James Vince, who had scored a quick 27 runs off 12 deliveries, ending his brief innings.
Matthew Wade and Tayyab Tahir formed a remarkable second-wicket partnership, scoring 109 runs in 83 balls. However, Ihsanullah, the tournament's leading wicket-taker, dismissed Tahir by trapping him in front of the stumps. Tahir contributed 65 runs to the scoreboard in 46 balls, playing with confidence and smashing eight fours and a six.
Despite struggling to score initially, Matthew Wade managed to make 46 runs off 47 balls before being bowled by Ihsanullah while attempting a lap shot. Meanwhile, skipper Imad Wasim's brief six-ball knock resulted in 14 runs, including a boundary and a six.
Ihsanullah was the standout performer with the ball for Multan Sultans, claiming two wickets for just 22 runs in his four overs.
Karachi Kings, who have won just one of their five matches, are currently placed fifth in the points table and need a victory to remain in contention for the final four. In contrast, Multan Sultans are at the top of the points table, having won four of their five matches.
